Based in Solapur, Maharashtra, the B.C.Girls Hostel has been running Dress Making course for last 12 years.
Every year 15-20 girls are enrolled for the batch. Beneficiary are from the girls hostel and all the girls are economically weaker class. The course is planned for the girls who are lagging behind in formal education. They are taught to stitch different types of ladies garments such as Blouse, Skirts, Frocks Chudidhar. They are also taught to make Cotton Purses, Cotton Bags, Cushion Covers, Wall Hanging, Mobile Pouch etc. Under the guidance of a trained teacher the girls are taught professionally. After the completion of the course theory and practical exam are conducted and certificates are issued to them by the Trust. Every year about 30 girls from std 8th 9 th & 10th get basic knowledge of tailoring.
There are two models to the programme, basic and advanced. About 300 girls have been trained in basic skills and about the same number in the advanced dress making course. All the girls who have graduated this course are well placed and self sustaining in their own right getting the vocational training here at our centre.
Some of the students have started their own small business while some have secured jobs at commercial garment factories. A few of them have started classes to teach and pass on the same vocational to other young deserving women.
With assistance from SAVE the BC girls Hostel are achieving their goal to teach life skill to girls and make them self-reliant.
